Ms. Pierce was raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Attending nearby Salisbury State College, she graduated in 1977, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Moving to Jacksonville in 1979, she began her career in real estate sales. Quickly accomplishing one of her goals of becoming the company’s Top Producer, she subsequently expanded into training and management.
She joined HomeTeam GMAC Real Estate (current name) in 1985 as the New Homes Sales Manager, and in 1989 helped develop the commercial subsidiary, Commercial Brokers Unlimited. She became the General Sales Manager in 1992, and in 1995, she and Sandra Hurst purchased the companies.

As a member of the Jacksonville Board of REALTORS since 1980, she has chaired and worked on numerous committees, serving as a Director for 10 years, and served as the President in 1992. She was honored as the 1987 and 1999 REALTOR of the Year, being the only member to receive the honor twice. She is currently serving as Legislative Chairman. Ms. Pierce also served a two-year term as a Regional Vice President of the North Carolina Association of REALTORS, serving 10 boards in northeastern North Carolina. She holds the designation of GRI (Graduate of the REALTORS Institute), and CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) through the National Association of REALTORS.

Ms. Pierce has been active in the Greater Jacksonville/Onslow Chamber of Commerce since 1985 and in 1997 served as the first woman Chairman of the Board of Directors. She has been extensively involved on the Government Affairs Committee, serving as Chairman in 2000, and currently serving as the Federal Issues sub-chair.

Ms. Pierce is the first woman to be appointed to the Military Affairs Committee, a select group of community business leaders and military leaders from Camp Lejeune Marine Corp Base and Marine Corp Air Station New River. This group is charged and credited with maintaining the unique partnership between the military and civilian communities of Onslow County.

She is a core member of the Project CARE (Community Action Readiness Effort) implementation team. Project CARE is the Deployment Contingency Plan created after Desert Storm in a partnership with the City of Jacksonville, Onslow County and the Chamber of Commerce and executed in preparation of Operation Iraqi Freedom to assist military dependents and local businesses through the massive deployment.

To pursue her personal commitment of redevelopment of downtown Jacksonville, she has served seven years on the Board of Directors of BOLD (Bettering Our Local Downtown). She has just completed a three-year term as President, during which the annual Riverwalk Festival was initiated.

Ms. Pierce was named Onslow County Woman of the Year in 1993 and received the Athena Award, a nationally recognized award given for community service. In 1996, she was elected to the Jacksonville Advisory Board of Directors of Wachovia Bank of North Carolina. She received the Sam Walton Business Leader Award in 1999. She currently serves on the Business Advisory Committee for Coastal Carolina Community College, and is a member of the Jacksonville Rotary Club.

In July 2005, Ms. Pierce was elected as the first Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sturgeon City, an Environmental Education and Research facility. She has served on the advisory board since 1999.
